What better hobby is there than to be able to provide dog lovers with best friends for life! Those who are not dog lovers would be if they had one of our Golden Retrievers. Golden Dog Kennel is operated by Alan and and Joyce Metzler. Our dogs are our passion and we have been raising Golden’s since 2002. Alan has been an animal care person for over 30 years working several professional positions as a Zoologist at the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Wildlife Safari Park, a Biologist for California Fish and Game, Director/ Curator for the Atascadero Zoo and over ten years experience as an Animal Control Officer for San Luis Obispo County. My background has given me many resources and experiences to raise Golden Retrievers in a professional manner but with the personal, loving attention of a hobby. It is a very gratifying endeavor. Anyone who has owned a golden knows the unconditional love they give you day in and day out.
We love our dogs and feel responsible for our puppies:
All buyers must have a secure yard at their home, Minimum 5 ft high fence. A dog has the potential to be your best friend and deserves responsible ownership and loving care every day. They also must be allowed to come in the house with you.
Please understand caring properly for your dog is not without some cost. After purchase you will have some minor vet bills on occasion, food bills and toys. We have had very little negative feedback regarding our pups. They are retrievers so they like to carry stuff as retrievers should, but they are not big time chewers… unless they do not get enough attention or you allow them to get bored. They are intelligent dogs and they need toys, loving attention and stimulation.
Most counties require you to license your dog and California State law requires you to vaccinate your dog for rabies and requires you put identification on your dog at all times. County license tags enable people to return your dog to you should they become lost. Licensing also supports your local Animal Services Organization and helps save lives and re-home lost dogs. I also highly recommend that you spay or neuter your pet once they reach one year of age. Our pups all go to new homes with a microchip identification.
